The Trouble with Bobby Pins

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

If you are a girl you have probably experienced this problem at some point. I buy bobby pins very regularly and I don't really throw any of them away, but somehow they all manage to disappear within a couple of months. There are probably several in random places at my house, but I can never seem to find them when I really need one.

It doesn't help that the drawer that is home to my hair and makeup products is a big mess! I usually just toss my bobby pins in the front of the drawer when I am done using them. Of course they end up at the bottom, and when it is time for me to find one I have to dig around everything. I knew there had to be a solution!

Pinterest to the rescue! I found a pin...and the perfect way to fix my problem!

Magnets! I still had magnets left over from this project, and they had an adhesive back. (I got them from the craft department at Wal-Mart for about $1.) It was probably the easiest project ever! Now my bobby pins just hang out on the magnet strip, and when I need one I know just where to find it.

Don't get me wrong...there are still bobby pins chilling out on the floor, in the bottom of my purse, and anywhere else they may fall, but it is much easier to find the bobby pins in my drawer.

Confession

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

This rainy but beautiful month has not been a very productive one! You may remember all the things that I planned to accomplish this month...well, I didn't! Bummer! (I did get a couple things done, but not all of them.) However, I did manage to add things to the list. Go figure! Is it any surprise that I add projects faster than I subtract them? (Tell me I am not the only one who does that!) Here is a roundup of what I did/didn't do:

•Finish the office/guest room: There are still 3.5 days left...I have hope that I may make a dent in this project!

•Add homey touches: I still haven't done this...but I did find a ladder! (Actually, my wonderful father-in-law found two ladders! I can't wait to show you what I have planned for them!)

•$1 Bowl Makeover: All of my DIY projects were put on hold when I opened The Hunger Games! (Except for the magnets that I made...you can read more about that here.)

I hope that your month was more productive than mine. I promise that I will post all about my Pinterest Challange project when I get it finished! (Which will be soon!)

Craft Magnet

Saturday, March 10, 2012

What a beautiful Saturday! The blinds are open, the sun is peering through the window, and my adorable nephew has been keeping me company all morning. He has been enjoying my chalk board refrigerator (I will be posting more about that later). While he was covering it with brightly colored chalk I decided that it would be fun to decorate it too...with something other than chalk!

I recently found this simple DIY on The Pretty Blog, and I thought it would be perfect for my refrigerator.

This is such an easy project, and it doesn't require very many supplies.

•clothespins

•magnet strips

•double sided tape

•card stock

•paint (optional)

Elephant Shoe had actually painted the clothes pins with black paint, but I decided that the clothespins looked better against the black fridge. If you decide to paint your clothespins you will need to do that first. Once the paint is dry you can attach the magnet strips on the back of the clothespins. (You may need to trim them up some, but I would make sure they cover the entire back of the clothespin.) After you put the magnets on you can print and cut out the tags that are provided on The Pretty Blog, or you can make your own if you are really feeling creative! I attached the tags with double sided tape. (That seems to hold them on there very well.) Then I decorated my fridge with Hank!

I really love the Recipes tag. I like the idea of having them next to my shopping list and weekly menu. I also like the Please Remember to tag. It is perfect for RSVP's and quick reminders.

I hope you guys like this project as much as I did! Happy Saturday!

Hmmm...Decisions, Decisions

Thursday, March 08, 2012

Yesterday I found out that it is time for the Pinterest Challenge! I am so excited about this season's Pinterest Challenge! However, I am not sure what I am doing yet. (I should really plan this ahead of time so I am not scrambling to come up with something to do.) Last season I made a rosette wreath that is still hanging up on my front porch!

I looked through all of my pins to see what I wanted/felt like I would be able to accomplish before next week, and I narrowed it down to three options! Trust me, three is impressive!

Option One: Remember my March to-do list from my last post? Well, the $1 bowl makeover was actually inspired by this pin. Spray painting cheap dishes to give them some character seems like such a great idea! (These would be for decoration only!)

Option Two: I am trying to add some homey touches to our house, and this project really seems like something that Dane and I would both love.

Option Three: I have been wanting to make pillows for our couch and love seat, and I love these! I really like the idea of stenciling the pillow to give it a personal touch!

So those are my options! What do you think I should do?

Calendar

March is Here

Tuesday, March 06, 2012

I am a little 6 days late on this post! Better late than never, right?

February flew by! I cannot believe we are already to the third month of the year, fifth month of my marriage (that is my new form of time measurement!) I will embrace it and hope that it is a productive month. I have a lot of stuff planned for March!

•Finish the office/guest room: This has been on the to-do list since October...now it is on the MUST get done list!

•Add homey touches: I have not hung anything on the walls yet...partially because I don't know where I want to put them...decisions, decisions. I am also searching for a ladder that I want to use for decoration.

•$1 Bowl Makeover: I need some bowls for the top of my cabinets. They are just going to be used for decoration...SO I have an idea to DIY some! (Don't worry...I will share!)

There is a lot to do. I tend to fill my to do list with things that don't ever get done. I decided to limit it so I can actually accomplish the whole list! Cross your fingers!

Well, I promised last month that I would design a calendar every month...

...and I have a special treat for all of my iPhone users! I have included an iPhone version in addition to the printable version.

Enjoy!
