I am so excited about our little garden! Dane and I attempted planting some peppers and other veggies last year, but that was a giant FAIL! However, this year we have a pretty nice crop of peppers and tomatoes! We started out with some pretty little plants that I potted in my DIY planters. (I did paint over them again...I was going for a more rustic/neutral look this year.) I also sprinkled a little bit of Scott's Flower and Vegetable Food into the soil when I planted them. The only other thing I have really done is water them. 

I can see some homemade salsa in our future...sounds like a good reason to throw a fiesta! Who is in? 

All of the plants are doing great! However, I do think that I will put them in larger pots next year. AND I took out most of my DIY Garden Labels. They all started to fall apart...DIY fail! Guess I should have asked Dad to do it! ;)

You know that I have been really been wanting to plant something pretty in the little planters outside my house. Well, I could fight that desire any longer. However, there have been some looming storms in the forecast, and I thought it would be better to plant something inside. SO...I went to Wal-Mart and got some new little planters, some paint, and plants of course! I picked out 2 succulents ($2.50 each) and a couple of the smallest planters that I could find ($.50-$2.00 each). I painted the planters the same way that I did my outdoor planters (if you are looking for a quick and easy DIY, this is great). The succulents wouldn't really fit into the larger planter, but I just placed some rocks in the bottom (problem solved). I also placed a coffee filter in between the rocks and soil. 

Dane is pretty sure that I will be able to kill these, but I am going to do my best to keep them going! I really like looking at them on the kitchen window, but they may get moved into the office when it is all done!

I have been itching to plant something for the last few weeks, and this warmer isn't helping. I took down my winter-ish wreath down on the first day of Spring, and I got out my awesome planters (you can check out the DIY here). Dane likes to call them the circles of death, but I don't know how he thought anything was going to live in last summer's heat! Let's be real...it was HOT! Anyway, I really want to plant some pretty little flowers in those pots! I loved the flowers that I picked out last year, but I may go with something different. I would love any suggestions on what flowers would be good in lots of sunlight! I really don't want a repeat of last year.

It seems like just yesterday that I was planting my little sprouts! Back in April I decided to start an herb garden (I also planted some other flowers and vegetables, but those didn't really do so well! Who am I kidding? They are totally dead.) However, the herbs have done great...and it was the easiest thing ever! They are growing up so fast.

Until a couple of weeks ago I have left the cover over these little guys...they weren't really fitting anymore. I now have to water them more often than I did before, but they are still doing great! Eventually, I would like to move them into prettier planters! Don't worry, I will keep you posted! 

A few weeks ago Dane and I went a little crazy planting all kinds of yummy stuff! Dane planted carrots, green beans, and tons of peppers! I decided that I wanted to plant some herbs. I have been thinking about planting herbs for a while. Then I saw this DIY Mason Jar Herb Garden on Camille Styles, and I knew it was something I had to do! (I am excited about the fresh herbs too!) So, I purchased a little green house herb kit from Wal-Mart for about $5, and planted myself (and my husband) some herbs! 

I was not super confident with my planting skills. After all, I was placing seeds in soil and expecting them to turn into plants! My dad does this all the time, but I was not convinced that I got that gene. After a couple of days I started to see some sprouts. First the basil popped up, and it was quickly followed by the chives. However, the parsley didn't show any signs of sprouting. I had pretty much given up hope, and then it poked through the soil! Parsley is the herb that I was looking forward to using the most (very excited!)

Dane's plants are also starting to sprout. The green beans (which he won't eat) were the only thing to sprout at first, and there was only one. Actually, we I thought it was growing upside down, but I was wrong...they just look like they are growing upside down. Who knew?

Yesterday I shared my DIY planter project with you! I am still in love with these little pots, but they couldn't sit empty forever. That is right...I have officially planted my first flower! My grandma will be so proud (if I can keep them alive!)

I needed a flower that would hold up to the sun. The planters and flowers were meant to decorate the front steps (which have absolutely no shade!) I finally settled on the Dwarf Celosia. These flowers have a beautiful texture and need 6+ hours of sunlight. Perfect! Bonus: the tag said easy to grow! 

I was excited to get these little beauties in there new planter homes, but I had a couple of steps to take care of first. The first thing that I did was place some rocks in the bottom of the pots. Then I placed a used dryer sheet on top of the rocks. These steps will help with draining. 

After those steps are done you can add a little bit of potting soil. Then you can plant your flowers!!! (This was the part that I was excited about!) Make sure you break up the root ball a little bit before you place it in the pot. Then just fill in with more potting soil. Done!

I have been so excited to get my garden started! Well, I took the first steps! (Note: these steps did not include flowers, seeds, or soil.) I picked out the planters. Okay...this step doesn't exactly require a green thumb, and it doesn't really count as gardening, but I am excited about it anyway! I found some cheap ($1.25 each) terra cotta pots from Wal-Mart and decided to do some DIY. Wal-Mart had a nice selection of decorative pots, but they were much pricier and I liked the idea of doing my own.

The first thing that I did was tape off the top ring of the pots. I really wanted to leave that part the original color like this. Then, I painted the bottom half of the planters. The colors that I used required two coats of paint. It may take more than that depending on the color and the paint that you choose. While the paint was still somewhat wet (it dried really quickly) I removed the tape. 

Here is the finished result. I absolutely love them...I actually went out and bought more! 

It is already April...how did that happen? My to do list is still growing (and still shrinking at a slower pace!) How am I supposed to get anything done when the weather is this beautiful?!?! I am not going to bore you with a list of task I have yet to complete, or the number of thing that I have added to that ever growing list...however, I will tell you that I excited to get my gardening on! I have never had a garden! (My mom had a garden and flower beds, but I didn't really do anything with them.) And since my loving husband will not let me get a dog (wouldn't you like to see pictures of a cute little puppy on here?) I am going to have to settle for raising flowers instead!
