Merry CHRISTmas

Friday, December 18, 2015

Christmas is quickly approaching, and my list of things to do doesn’t come close to fitting on the calendar! This time last year I was done shopping, done wrapping, and done decorating (if you think that means that never finished decorating, you would be correct.) I was all set to go for the holidays weeks early…you know, just in case a certain little fella decided to make his appearance. Well, that same fella is all sorts of “I want to help” without any kind of wrapping skills.

We are keeping it pretty simple this year. I did manage to mail out some Christmas cards (only because it is one of my favorite traditions), we put up a few Christmas decorations, and filled Rowan’s bookshelf with all of his Christmas-y books. However, we haven’t made festive popcorn, sipped hot chocolate, or sat through a Christmas movie marathon! I may just have to continue to celebrate the holiday well into February!

Now, I am going to go try to wrap some gifts while listening to Christmas music and diffusing Christmas Spirit…and stuff as much holiday cheer into the next week as humanly possible! Tis the season!

I hope that you all have a merry Christmas, and remember...

Baby's First Christmas Gift Guide

Monday, December 14, 2015

I cannot believe that we are getting ready to celebrate our last "first" holiday with Rowan. Christmas came way too quickly this year, and let's not even talk about what is 2 days later. (sniff, sniff) I was certain that we would be celebrating baby's first Christmas last year, so this isn't the first year that I have had presents for under the tree. Last year was easy, a couple of outfits all wrapped up to get his picture taken next to...you know, so he didn't look back on pictures and think that we didn't get him anything for his first holiday! This year, I really wanted to keep it simple. I picked out a couple of things that he can play with, a couple of books, and an outfit or two...oh, and PJs of course! I put together a little gift guide that includes some goodies that any kiddo would probably love & a couple that Row will be finding under the tree this year.

Oldnavy has some of the cutest pajamas for children. I love this moon set for little boys, but there are way too many for me to pick a favorite.

Rowan loves bath time (aka: splash, splash), but we don't have a lot of bath toys. He usually prefers to play with an extra washcloth, but I think that these colorful bath appliques will draw his attention. Boon actually has a bunch of really cool bath toys!

I tried to find things that Rowan would enjoy playing with for years to come. This campfire set from Land of Nod is perfect for littles, but I think that bigger kids would love it too! I mean, who wouldn't want to have a camp out in the middle of the living room!?

Cold weather gear is an easy stocking stuffer. I am sure that mittens will come off as easy as hats, sunglasses, and socks for my little rascal, but they are a winter necessity. Aren't these Charlie Brown mittens cute!?

Books always make the list for everyone in my family! Rowan is a little bookworm, and we love adding to his collection of storybooks. Olive the Other Reindeer and Bear Stays Up for Christmas look so cute, and would make adorable Christmas gifts!

I tried to stick to the something you want, some thing you need, something to wear, and something to read rule, when it came to buying gifts. However, I truly believe that the best present is presence! As long as we are together as a family, it is going to be a wonderful holiday! Hope you found this little guide helpful!

Thanksgiving

Saturday, November 28, 2015

I hope that all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving week. We spent a lot of time with family, ate way too much turkey dessert, and enjoyed all that we have to be thankful for. Thanksgiving is one of our busiest holidays. Four celebrations in one day is pretty exhausting, but I wouldn't have it any other way!

The turkey and traveling hit some people a little harder than others! Rowan wasn't feeling his best, but he still managed to scarf down some sweet potatoes and flash some smiles before crashing at stop number 3. Easton was extra exhausted, because he was celebrating Thanksgiving AND turning 2 at the same time! Talk about multitasking...no wonder he was tired!

Overall, we had a wonderful holiday. We have so much to be thankful for, especially our amazing family.

Now, it is time to finish decorating for Christmas! Tis the season!

Cold Weather Favorites

Friday, November 13, 2015

The temperature is slowly dropping, and that can only mean one thing...winter is on its way! I love fall, and I am certainly not trying to rush it along, but there are so many things that I love about winter. Fall is such a busy time for us, and winter seems to slow down just a little. There is nothing quite like curling up with a blanket and a baby and watching through the window as the snow lightly falls. (Last winter Rowan was still teeny tiny, but let's be honest, this year curling up will probably consist of wet kisses and hair pulling.) Surely, snow is still a while off, but in the mean time I have decided to put together a few of my wintery favorites.

Cozy sweaters, leggings, and warm socks are the best attire for those days when you are snowed in.

Warm hats! I am a cold blooded gal. Cold hands, warm heart...right? Anyway, I have to keep my ears from getting cold, and this cozy hat looks like it would do the trick. Bonus points if it hides the crazy hair that I sport most days!

My favorite Christmas album from Pentatonix! Yes, I am one of those people that starts listening to Christmas music on November 1st...don't judge! I am very thankful for Christmas music, and I certainly can celebrate Thanksgiving and listen to Christmas music at the same time...I call it multitasking!

Wintery scents are a must during the colder season! Northern Lights Black Spruce is a new favorite essential oil around our house. Oh, and we have to keep Thieves handy for a little immunity boost. After all, staying healthy is important with all of the holiday festivities.

What are your cold weather favorites?

Weekend Adventure Part 2: Chicago

Saturday, October 31, 2015

You may have read about our Normal adventure earlier this week. Well, Normal was only half of our fun! Friday night, we continued our little road trip up to Chicago, home to Dane's sister and her adorable & growing family!  (Eeeep...aunting is one of my favorite things, and I am so excited about welcoming another niece in a few short months.) We got to town just in time for supper... mac n' cheese from the Honky Tonk...YUM!!! It was a pretty relaxed evening. Well, as relaxed as it can be when you have two crazy babies chasing each other around. We just got to sit and visit and catch up on life, and that was awesome!

The next morning we went to breakfast at Hashbrowns before Lerisse had to leave for work. The boys had fun (Rowan usually enjoys anything that involves food!) and we tried to plan our day of activities. Of course, it was raining...again!

We thought it might be best to stay indoors for the day, but at the last minute the sun came out and we decided to go to the Lincoln Park Zoo! Rowan had never been to the zoo, so I was excited for him to see all of the animals. The zoo was really crowded. Apparently, it was their Halloween day, and they were giving out candy to little kids. We worked our way through the swarm of princesses and super heroes to see most of the animals. Rowan's favorite were the ducks...go figure! After a couple hours we made our way back to the car and shortly after that it started raining again! Talk about perfect timing!

Our time in Chicago was quickly (too quickly) coming to an end. We loaded the car, gave hugs, said our goodbyes, and had to hit the road again.

Ultimately, our weekend trip was a huge success. Rowan handled the car ride like a champ, we got to spend time with people that we love, Rowan and Lendon got to have some quality cousin time, and we had a blast!

Our Normal Adventure

Monday, October 26, 2015

The Normal/Bloomington area is quickly becoming one of my favorite places. There is a little bit of farm and a little bit of city a Target, which is pretty much the recipe for success in my book. Oh, and did I mention it is the home of a few of my favorite people! So, I was very excited to take a little road trip for a fun, fall, family day!

Unfortunately, it started raining and our fall day ended up consisted of Chick-fil-A for lunch, a quick trip to the pumpkin patch, and Rowan chasing my aunt's dog around the living room...which was absolutely perfect! Every time we visit Normal we get to do something new, and we always have a good time. Below are some pictures of our fun at the pumpkin patch and a list of great spots for your family to enjoy.

I suggest getting an early start to the day, and heading over to the Rader Family Farm! It is seriously the cutest pumpkin patch that I have ever seen and there is so much to do. You can stop in their cute little cafe and grab a pumpkin donut and some hot apple cider...you know, to fuel up for the corn maze. They have a petting zoo, slides, sing along wagon rides, a bouncy station, and SO MUCH MORE! You could really spend the whole day there.

Just down the road is a cute little farm complete with baby Jersey cows and cheese! We plan on taking Rowan the next time we are in the area...he LOVES cows!

Miller Park is one of the spots that we went to the last time we were in town. It was so pretty! There are little trails that wind through the park and it is home to the Miller Park Zoo

The last place on my list is Constitution Trail it is a beautiful bike/jogging trail...perfect for a day outside! We drove by part of it while it was raining and it was GORGEOUS!  The trees were all bright orange, yellow, and red! Seriously, beautiful!

Well, we didn't get to spend much time outside, but our day could not have been better! The key to a perfect fall day is spending it with people that you love, and that is exactly what we got to do!

If you are ever in the area I suggest visiting planning to spend some time in Normal and Bloomington. There is so much to do including events like festivals, fairs and the Halloween Treat Feast! Who doesn't love festive events?! (PS...If events are your thing, you need to check out Eventbrite and their Event Planning and Management page!)

Coming up: Part 2 of our weekend getaway...Rowan's first trip to Chicago.

Fall Favorites

Monday, October 05, 2015

FALL-la-la-la-la!!! Fall is in full swing around here, and I have rounded up some of my favorites for the season!

I don't really like football, unless it is the local high school team. BUT these leg rolls + football leg warmers may make me a fan of the sport! Let's face it...these are the only leg warmers Rowan will ever be allowed to wear!

This fall scavenger hunt for kiddos is so cute! Rowan is still too little to enjoy this, but I am sure he would love to watch his cousins play...or try to eat everything they find.

Cool weather is great for so many outdoor activities, However, curling up with a book, a blanket, and a baby is pretty sweet. Right now the only books I really read are kids' books. Dracula and A Halloween Scare in Illinois are our top picks for October, but I would like to get Fletcher and the Falling Leaves to add to our collection.

Express was running a sale on this sweater! It pairs so well with leggings and boots, making it the perfect sweater for fall!

Fall is the perfect time for chili. We like ours loaded up with sour cream, shredded cheese and Freetos, but this recipe looks pretty delicious (another reason I need a waffle iron)!!! I really want to have a fall party with some of our friends. A chili bar, some cold beer, and a fire pit sound like a good idea to me! Who's in?!

I am still swooning over this nail color from last year. I don't really have time to paint all 10 nails in one sitting, but my half a manicure will probably be Fall in Line.

My list of fall favorites could go on and on, but I will stop there...for now!

Weekend Recap

Tuesday, September 29, 2015

We had such a beautiful fall weekend! The weather was perfect, and we tried to spend as much time outside as possible. Friday was our town's homecoming. I love the festive spirit of the our community during the high school football season! Everyone was decked out in purple in white. Rowan even sported his Uncle Layton's number! The game was a nail biter. Luckily, the boys were able to whip up some awesome defense and pulled off a win...with seconds left! It is always a fun night cheering on the Panthers!

Saturday was the homecoming dance, and I got to take some pictures before the big event. My brother is a junior (I know, I am still wrapping my head around that.) and he went to the dance with his adorable girlfriend. I cannot believe how grown up he is! Of course, Rowan had to crash the photo session! He really just went to check out all the pretty girls. He was eyeing up all of their pretty necklaces, and trying to figure out how to get them in his mouth! He is actually a pretty good assistant for these photo shoots...he can get anyone to smile! I mean, look at that face!

Sunday, Dane went with my bother to he Steelers game, and Rowan and I went to the local pumpkin patch. He got to ride in a wagon, and that made him pretty darn excited. We picked out some pumpkins and some apples and loaded up on kettle corn. Have I mentioned that I love fall?! I think it is safe to say that Rowan is also a fan. He may or may not have tried to eat a pumpkin or two.

Now, I am going to spend the week enjoying SIXTY degree weather and making crock pot apple sauce. Hope you guys are enjoying fall as much as we are!

Happy Fall

Wednesday, September 23, 2015

Hooray for the first day of fall! I always look forward to the arrival of cooler weather, pumpkin spice, and crunchy leaves! It really is my favorite time of year. I also love harvest, scarves, and oh yeah...my birthday (which just so happens to be TODAY!) Yeah, I share a birthday with fall, it is pretty awesome!

Fall holds some of my fondest memories...bonfires, trips to the pumpkin patch, our wedding, and so many more. This is Rowan's first fall, and I am determined to make it special! He took his first ride in the combine earlier this week, and he loved it!

Harvest always keeps us busy. We make a lot of trips to the farm, and the guys spend a lot of time in the field. When I was younger, I remember loading up food with my mom or grandma and having supper picnic-style in whatever field the guys were working in. I hope that we can do that sometime this year!

One of our favorite orchards is down the road, and I really want to go apple picking. Rowan loves apples, and I think some homemade apple sauce is on my must make list for fall! I found this recipe for crock-pot apple sauce, and I have been wanting to try it! I also want to go to the local pumpkin patch, and we have already planned a trip to the zoo!

I am sure this is going to be a fall that we remember forever, and I can't wait! Let's get this season started!

Chatbooks

Thursday, September 10, 2015

How many pictures do you have on your phone? Well, I currently have 2,177...yes, I know I have a problem! Most of the pictures are of a special baby boy. I have tried to delete some, but when Rowan's smiling little face is staring at me from my phone screen, it is really hard to click delete. My favorite pictures usually end up on Instagram, and overtime are compiled in a beautiful little book that is delivered to my door. How, you ask...Chatbooks!

You guys, pictures are my passion. I love them and I treasure every one of the memories that is captured by photographs. Taking pictures is easy, but printing pictures is not always as simple. Well, that is until Chatbooks came into my life! Every time I post 60 pictures to my Instagram account (I can exclude any that I don't want in the book), I get a little notification tell me that my book is ready. The app is really easy to use...actually, the hardest part is waiting for the completed book to arrive.

The books are beautiful! They are just the right size, the quality is great, and I love that they include the Instagram captions. They make a perfect little stack of coffee table books, and Rowan LOVES when we flip through them! It is so important to print pictures, and Chatbooks makes it so easy!

This is not a sponsored post. All opinions and squishy, baby, picture books are my own!

8 Months + My Take on Sleepless Nights

Thursday, August 27, 2015

I don't know how it is possible, but we have an 8 month old! It is kind of a strange feeling. On one hand, it still feels like yesterday that we were welcoming Rowan into this world, but it is also hard to remember life before he was here! Dane and I are over the moon in love with the little boy that made us parents, and we love watching him grow everyday!

Favorite Activities: eating, NOT sleeping, sitting up, reading books, being outside
Favorite Toys: squeaky cow, stacking rings, and anything with a tag
Favorite Foods: blueberries, butternut squash, and quinoa
Number of Teeth: FIVE

Notice that one Rowan's favorite activities is staying up all night! Well, that wasn't always the case. You know that saying, "Be careful what you wish for?" Well, if you read his 4 month post you could say I had it comin'. We had a 3 month stretch of good sleep, and then BOOM...teeth came, and sleep went out the window. However, I have decided that I am just going to enjoy absolutely every second I can spend with my little guy...especially the seconds in the earliest times of the day, before the sun is even out. Someday, he isn't going to cry for us in the middle of the night, someday he isn't going to want us to tuck him in, someday he isn't going to need us to read him a bedtime story, and when that time comes I am going to miss every 3 am that I am getting to share with him right now! I love that boy to pieces, and he is worth a million sleepless nights...and many more! So, for now I will just live on sloppy kisses and coffee...and probably be sporting some crazy hair.

Snyder Family Vacation

Tuesday, August 25, 2015

Well, we have been back from vacation for a while now. I have been meaning to get this post up, but life happened, a cold happened, and lack of sleep happened...again! I may have decided that routines are a fairytale. Anyway...here is a little post about our vacation.

Vacation was wonderful, and SOOO needed. It was short and sweet, but filled with family time and memories that we will treasure forever!

The trip started on a Saturday! Coletta, the three kiddos, and I all rode together. This was the Rowan's first long road trip, and I was a little nervous about how that was going to go. He ended up doing great! After sleeping the first half of the trip, Hattie and Rowan jabbered about who knows what until we finally arrived. There was about fifteen minutes of crying at the very end, but I will count it as a win!

We got settled into our temporary homes and let the kids take a nap, and then we all got ready for dinner. The first night was a luau complete with themed food, decorations, music, and games. We had so much fun!

After supper we went down to the beach and put our toes in the sand. Rowan LOVED it! It was the perfect ending to a relaxing day.

Each day was just as much fun as the first. Day two we did some shopping and had a western themed dinner with casino games...and the daddies showed up, which was great! Day three we did some boating and had a little fiesta! We had such a great time, and I could not help but think how incredibly blessed I am to be part of such a wonderful family!

Oh, and did I mention that Rowan slept wonderfully while we were gone?! I guess we are going to have to go on a permanent vacation...gotta do what ya gotta do, right?

Thursday, August 20, 2015

It has been a long time since I have made a project list on here! Actually, the last time I did it, the nursery was still being called a guest room/office. Anyway, I thought it would be fun to do it again, and maybe it will motivate me to get some stuff done. You can check out the last list here.

DIY Nusery Art

Saturday, August 08, 2015

I have finally completed a project...it only took about 7 months are so! This little project has been on my to-do list for a long time, and I have actually had most of the materials for months. What took so long to get it done? Well, I needed a stick. When I got the materials there was snow on the ground, then it kept raining, then I decided I would just buy one, then I couldn't find one that I liked at any home decor store, then I decided I would just look for one outside, and that is when I found this the perfect little stick for the job. Phew...that process took longer than it should have, I know! Anyway...I found a stick and whipped this up in about an hour.

The materials:
String (I purchased the garland kit, so the string actually came with the felt balls.)
Stick

Making this was really easy! I just used an embroidery needle to thread the balls onto the string, and then I tied the string onto the stick. I did make the string different lengths and tried to change up the pattern of the colors. I suggest threading all of the balls at once, and then cutting the sections off at the desired length.

Originally, this was supposed to hang from the ceiling and be a mobile, but it blocked the attic door. It is probably better this way...it was super easy to install. We just put nails in the wall at three points where the stick touched, and then we rested the stick on top.

I am pretty much in love! That wall needed a touch of something, and this was perfect!

I also think it would be cute to tie the strings around an embroidery hoop, and then hang that from the ceiling! There are a lot of ways to execute this, but I really wanted the natural look of the wood.

Books for Babes

Friday, August 07, 2015

One of our favorite activities is reading! Rowan is a big fan of books, and that makes me one happy momma! We have several favorites, and our book wish list seems to grow pretty quickly.

Little Blue Truck is our absolute favorite at the moment. I wouldn't be surprised if BEEP is Rowan's second word (because Dane made sure that Dada was his first). Your Baby's First Word Will Be Dada is another favorite! We can't get through the first page without smiles...probably because it has a cow on it! We also really enjoy Naptime with Theo and Beau, Guess How Much I Love You, Snuggle Up Sleepy Ones, and A Kissing Hand for Chester Raccoon.

We have a little collection of Christmas books in the closet that I can't wait to get out. I plan on changing up his book shelves for the different holidays (is that weird?), but I am especially excited about Christmas! AND I just found out that there is a Little Blue Truck's Christmas...that is going to have to make it's way to our collection!

Some of the other books on our wish list include Goodnight Already, Little Blue Truck Leads the Way, I Don't Want to Be a Frog, and Dragons Love Tacos. I am so glad that Rowan loves reading time, because I love reading to him...and I love finding fun new books to add to our shelves!

What are your favorite kid books?!

Happy Wednesday

Wednesday, July 29, 2015

We had another little photo shoot over the weekend. This kid is too cute...it is really hard to resist taking pictures of him! Anyway, here is the kiddo...fang-tooth and all!

If you haven't noticed I have a habit of taking WAY too many pictures...and I can never pick a favorite! And these little sessions on Mommy and Daddy's bed are quickly becoming some of our favorite!

15 Weeks of Rowan (Part Two)

Saturday, July 25, 2015

Well, another 15 weeks has managed to slip by! Rowan is getting so big. He loves bath time and giggling at Mommy and Daddy, and his new tricks include growing teeth and not sleeping through the night! (If anyone needs to chat at 2 am, just give me a buzz...I am probably awake.) Here are some pictures of our growing baby boy! We love you so much, Rowan!

Magnolia Market

Wednesday, July 22, 2015

Recently, my family took a vacation to Waco, Texas...without me! While they were there, they visited the Magnolia Market. To say that I was a bit jealous, would be an understatement. I have mentioned before (here) that I am hooked on Fixer Upper, and I would love to visit the shop at some point. So, while my mom called me from the store to tell me how cute everything was, I decided to do a little Magnolia shopping of my own! I have put together some of my favorites items that they offer online.

Essential Oils

Saturday, July 11, 2015

Lets talk about essential oils for a minute. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed that I have recently started using different oils around my house. I had first heard of oils from some of my family. I had heard of people diffusing them and using them for things like bug spray and sugar scrubs, but I wasn't really convinced that it was something that I needed. A few months went by, we had a baby, and I started hearing more and more about these essential oils.

I started doing a little more research about what kinds of things they were good for, and found that people were using them to help boost immunity during season changes. My husband is usually pretty miserable during the spring and summer months, so I thought we would give them a try. I finally decided to get a Premium Starter Kit from Young Living, and I am so glad that I did! We have seen so many benefits from these oils, so I thought I would tell you a little bit about how they have helped us.

Luckily, we don't have a ton issues, but I like the idea of being proactive about my family's health. These are some of the oils that we have used, with success, so far!

Purification: (Possibly, my favorite oil...if I had to pick) We use this, in the laundry, in stinky shoes, diaper pails, vacuum filters, and we diffuse it to make the whole house smell fresh and clean.

PanAway: This is perfect for soothing sore joints and ligaments after exercise or other physical activity.

Frankincense: Another favorite...is part of my daily skin care regime. I also rub it on the bottoms of my feet to help alleviate nervous energy. It smells SO good, and has so many great benefits! Just Google it!

Stress Away: This one doesn't really need an explanation! It is awesome!

Thieves: This oil is a must have for us! It supports healthy immune function and helps maintain a healthy respiratory system.

These are just a few of the oils that come in the starter kit, and just a few of the ways that we use them!

How to get your own Premium Starter Kit:

2. Select “Sign Up As: Young Living Wholesale Member” (this gets you the 24% off discount on all future orders...who doesn't love a discount!?)

3. The “Enroller ID” and “Sponsor ID” boxes should already be filled in for you. If not, put 2835279 in both spots.

4. Fill out your name, billing address, shipping address, and contact info. (The reason you are asked for your SSN is for tax purposes; if you make over $600/year selling Young Living products, you will receive a 1099 form in the mail, as is required by law. Young Living never shares this info with anyone, and you’re not obligates to sell anything if you do not want to. I promise!)

5. Create your password and pin which you will use to log in to your account and order your oils.

6. Select your enrollment order. This is where you can specify which starter kit you would like. I recommend the Premium Kit with the Bamboo Diffuser.

7. It will ask if you want to sign up for the Essential Rewards program. There is no need to worry about that right now.

8. Agree to Terms & Conditions

9. CONFIRM YOUR ORDER.

10. Wait for your kit to arrive...this is the most difficult step! ;)

11. Make sure you friend me on Facebook so that I can add you to some fun oily Facebook groups...and just get to know you! :)

Summer Style

Wednesday, July 08, 2015

Summer is in full swing. It seems like it has been especially rainy, but we have been trying to spend as much time outside as possible! The kiddo loves to be outside. If the sun is out, you better believe we are soaking it up.

I thought it would be fun to put together some of our favorite summer style choices! We are big fans of casual around here, so if it fits and feels like a vintage tee, we are all for it!

Peplum tops are perfect for hiding my still-not-gone bit of baby belly and loose fitting tees paired with some cute sandals are always in style. One-piece outfits are what we usually reach for in the morning, and I feel like Rowan needs that "I'm Not Tired" tee to throw on during our 3 a.m. milk dates we have been having lately...seriously, what does a full night of sleep feel like?!
