Life Lately

Saturday, February 28, 2015

The last 9 weeks have been filled with a lot of love, baby snuggles, dirty diapers and coffee...so much coffee! However, there hasn't been much blogging...it is hard to type when you have a baby curled up on your chest. I am not complaining!

Taking care of a baby is not always easy! There are days where getting dressed and brushing my hair are a huge accomplishment. Taking care of a baby is definitely not glamorous! I usually end up with with poop, pee, or spit up on me by the end of each day...if I am being honest, it is usually all three! BUT, when you get looks like this...

...the poop is worth it!

Taking care of a baby is not always tidy. Rowan has officially claimed every square inch of our house...okay, that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but babies take up a lot of space. (I know, you all warned me that would happen!) The basket on my nightstand that was once home to a small journal, and extra hair tie, and the jewelry that I took off after I crawled into bed, now has a couple diapers, a packet of wipes, a small changing pad, and a snot sucker. You know, for those nights when I just don't feel like leaving my bed. It is not easy keeping all of that baby stuff organized...sometimes I just want it within reaching distance. Luckily, we have recently increased our storage by A LOT...all thanks to my wonderful husband and father-in-law. We will not outgrow this house yet! :) I will be sharing all of our storage projects and our bathroom with you as soon as they are done.

On another note, the last 9 weeks have been filled with lots of time with friends and family. It has been great to spend time with everyone, and I am so glad that Rowan is surrounded by such wonderful people!

Walk in Love

Happy Valentine's Day!

Have you heard of Walk in Love? Well, I thought this would be the perfect day to tell you all about them! I don't even remember how I was introduced to Walk in Love, but the second I came across their website I was in love! They beautifully combine hand lettering and a God driven message. A message that in their words, "is a reminder to imitate God by loving others every chance we get - no strings attached." How amazing is that!?

Here are a few of my favorite items in their shop.

Are you in love yet?! Well, that is not all! They have an iPhone app! If you follow me on Instagram, you have probably seen some of the VRSLY overlays. You can add beautiful messages to your own pictures. It is just another wonderful way they are spreading the love.

Today, and everyday, remember that we love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19). Share that love with everyone! I hope you have a wonderful Valentine's Day. Even if you don't have a someone to celebrate with, remember that you are loved!

Newborn Favorites

We have been parents for 5 weeks! (I am not sure how that is possible.) During those 5 weeks we have found some products that have made our lives a bit easier!

 1. Solly Baby Wrap: I haven't had to use this a whole lot. However, it has come in handy a few times, and I know that it will be very useful in the future. I have been able to hold Rowan and have two hands free for getting ready or doing things around the house. That makes us both happy!

2. Sound Machine: Rowan seems to sleep better if there is a little bit of light in the room, and noise doesn't hurt either. This sound machine is great, because it has a built in light. We don't always use the sound feature, but we use the light every night. It is a soft blue light that doesn't keep me up, but seems to be just enough for him.

3. Summer Infant Swaddles: We would have a lot of sleepless nights if it weren't for these swaddles. My babe loves to be swaddled! We have tried other swaddle blankets, but he wiggles out and wakes up. Plus, he seems to know that swaddle time is also bed time! He is one smart cookie!

4. Ubbi: If you are looking for a diaper pale, this is the one I recommend. I will be honest, I don't have experience with other diaper pales, but I can't imagine that there is a better pale. You don't have to buy special bags, there is a child lock feature for curious kiddos, and the smell stays locked inside! I would really recommend this to anyone!

5. RockaRoo: Rowie loves to rock in his RockaRoo! I love that it doesn't take up much room and it is light and easy to move around. Another awesome feature is the iPod hook up...we can listen to some tunes while he rocks and I clean. I think we both enjoy that!

Other things that I am thankful for...Hulu Plus for the middle of the night feedings, and my Keurig (no explination needed)!

What baby products do you love?

Bathroom Renovations

Monday, February 02, 2015

What started out as a simple bathroom fix has turned into a total overhaul...isn't that how it usually works?! We have picked out new flooring, paint, a shower curtain, and a vanity...but that is all I have been a part of! Dane has told me that I CANNOT go into the bathroom until it is completely finished. I will be honest, this idea makes me a little nervous, but I really just feel like I am on one of those home remodel shows! That also means that I won't have any pictures of the renovation process (unless Dane takes some). I have no idea what he has up his sleeve, but I am sure I will love it! Here is a peek at our bathroom before the remodel.

Yes, that is a camouflage shower curtain. Dane picked it out before I moved in, and until now I have not been able to convince him to change it. It wasn't a battle worth fighting. However, I am excited to see the new shower curtain...and the rest of the bathroom!

Ahhhhh...I am so excited to see it, and I can't wait to share it with all of you!!!

Being Mommy

Sunday, February 01, 2015

It has been over a month since I have written a post, and a lot has happened in that time. Christmas happened. New Years happened. Oh, and I HAD A BABY! Rowan was born on December 27, 2014 at 9:10 am.

I could not have asked for a more perfect baby, and being a mommy is one of the greatest things ever. Sometimes I find myself staring at him in awe that he is really mine, that God chose me to be his mommy. What makes me worthy of such a precious gift? I don't really know, but I will be forever thankful for the little man curled up on my lap.

I received a lot great baby advice. What diapers are the best, how to teach the baby to sleep through the night...the list goes on and on. However, there is one thing that no one prepared me for. Everyone tells you that the love for your baby is unimaginable, and that is SO true!!! BUT...no one said that the love that I had for my husband would grow so much! To say that I have been overwhelmed by love in the past 5 weeks would be an understatement. I didn't know that I could love Dane anymore, but seeing him with Rowan is my absolute favorite! These boys are my world!

Don't get me wrong...I change A LOT of dirty diapers and often wonder if I will ever get a full night's sleep again. This is my life now. It may be a bit of a mess at times, but it is a beautiful mess! I honestly wouldn't change one thing about it!
